A PRECAUTIONARY evacuation of all of Assumption Parish has been issued, especially in low-lying areas.
If the storm continues on the same track, we are expecting:
- Sustained winds of 39 mph at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 08/28/12
- Sustained winds of 58 mph by 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, 08/29/12
- NOTE: Winds are expected to endure until 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening
- Normal conditions are expected by 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, 08/30/12
A shelter of last resort will be open at Belle Rose Middle School (7717 Highway 1 in Belle Rose) on Tuesday, 08/28/12, at 8:00 a.m. The school will be running off of generator power; however, ALL evacuees should bring ALL necessary items such as sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, toiletries, personal hygiene items, medicines, food, water, and personal identification. NO COTS WILL BE PROVIDED!
All Assumption Parish Schools will be CLOSED on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 and Wednesday, August 29, 2012. A decision about Thursday will be made at a later time.
